We, at the Vascular Center of Northern Michigan, understand the importance of physician research before committing to one particular Doctor and/or practice. Please take the time to read our physician and staff biography’s. These are designed to help you proceed with an educated decision for a vascular surgeon and/or facility that fits your needs.

Michael J. Boros, MD, FAC

Dr. Boros specializes in Vascular and Endovascular surgery. Dr. Boros returned to Michigan after completing his Vascular Surgery fellowship in North Carolina in 2010. Dr. Boros and his wife could not pass up the opportunity to raise their two young sons in Northern Michigan, which allowed them to be closer to family. He is excited to have the opportunity to provide comprehensive vascular care in a community of this size. Since joining the staff at Munson Medical Center, he has been a very active member of the medical staff. He currently is the Chairman of the Vascular Department.

Post-graduate Education: Dr. Boros received his medical degree from St. George’s University in 2003. He completed his general surgery training at Michigan State University, Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies in 2008. He then went on for surgical subspecialty training in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, which he completed in 2010.

Societies and Memberships: Dr. Boros is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery. He recently accepted a position as a Young Surgeon Representative in the Michigan Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

Hospital Affiliations: Dr. Boros has been on staff at Munson Medical Center since 2010.

Advisory Boards: Dr. Boros is the Chairman of the Vascular Department. He serves on the Medical Executive Committee and the Surgical Department Peer Review Committee. He is also the Physician Champion for the Vascular Interventions Collaborative sponsored by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Cardiovascular Consortium.

Matthew G. Roos, MD

Dr. Roos specializes in Vascular and Endovascular surgery. He returned to Michigan after completing his Vascular Surgery fellowship in Oregon in 2016. Dr. Roos is excited to have the opportunity to provide comprehensive vascular care in a community of this size. Since joining the staff at Munson Medical Center, he has been an active member of the medical staff. Dr. Roos has volunteered on medical mission trips, providing surgical services to residents in Papua New Guinea and Malawi, Africa.

Post-graduate Education: Dr. Roos received his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 2009. He completed his general surgery training at Loma Linda University in 2014. He then went on for surgical subspecialty training in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Oregon Health and Science University, which he completed in 2016.

Societies and Memberships: Dr. Roos is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association.

Hospital Affiliations: Dr. Roos has been on staff at Munson Medical Center since 2016.

Dr. Lauren Cardella

Dr. Lauren Cardella D.O. completed her fellowship in vascular surgery at Henry Ford Hospital and residency at Cleveland Clinic Akron General. Originally from Cincinnati OH, she and her family have long ties to Northern Michigan. They are delighted to put down roots in Traverse City. In her free time, she enjoys the outdoors and loves to go camping.

 

Dr. Steven Rimar

Dr. Steven Rimar M.D. has relocated to Traverse City after enjoying a 30-year career in the Beaumont Hospital system. He completed his medical degree at the University of Michigan and vascular surgery fellowship training at Cleveland Clinic. In his free time, Dr. Rimar is an avid water skier in the summer and cross-country skier in the winter. He enjoys being “Up North” and looks forward to getting to know the community.

Vascular Lab Technicians

Annette, RVT, joined the Vascular Center of Northern Michigan in 2009, bringing with her 7 years of experience as a professional in the vascular technology field. Annette previously worked as a Certified Medical Assistant as well as a Medical Billing Specialist. She began her career as a vascular technologist in 2002 at Michigan Vascular Center in Flint, MI. Her professional experience includes all areas of vascular testing such as abdominal, carotid, arterial and venous duplex, dialysis graft and peripheral arterial testing (PAD). She is also experienced in vascular studies in the operative setting. Annette is a well-rounded and experienced vascular technologist with great personalism to make your experience welcoming and comforting. We are thrilled that she has chosen to move her family north and join our team.

Office Registered Nurses

Sarah, R.N., brought her extensive nursing experience to the Vascular Center of Northern Michigan in April 2016. Sarah graduated with her nursing degree and became a Registered Nurse in 1999. She began her career in southeastern Michigan at Herrick Hospital in Tecumseh, MI. She worked diligently in Obstetrics/Labor and Delivery for 3 years before moving to the Emergency Department, where she spent the next 11 years. While at Herrick, Sarah developed an immense understanding of wound and critical care, as well as peripheral vascular disease and its treatment.

Sarah has traveled extensively with her husband, and her skills were polished at Holland Hospital Urgent Care in Holland, MI as well as at a rheumatology clinic in North Carolina. Her work as an Infusion Nurse is especially helpful when she works in the VCNM Surgical Suite, preparing patients for procedures and caring for them while in recovery. Her knowledge of a vast assortment of chronic conditions makes her a valuable asset to the Vascular Center team. Her husband’s career brought Sarah and the family pets to Traverse City, where all are enjoying the healthy outdoor lifestyle Up North.

Alisha, R.N. joined the Vascular Center in November of 2017. She graduated from Northwestern Michigan College in 2016 with an Associates Degree in Nursing, as well as an Associates Degree in Biology. Alisha spent 8 years at a local long-term care facility, which solidified her passion for healthcare and helping people. After changing her career to the hospital setting, she developed an interest in vascular disease.

Alisha and her husband have four children and reside in Traverse City. They enjoy anything outdoors and are active in all seasons of the year.

Her enthusiastic personality and pleasure in educating patients on wound care, diet, exercise, and other health-related issues make her a very valuable team member.
