Sclerotherapy is a procedure performed for spider veins and varicose veins and is done in our on-site surgical suite. This short in-office procedure can be done by either of our 3 physicians or our highly trained specialist and Registered Nurse, Steffi Valdiviez. This painless technique involves injecting a problem vein with a chemical which causes the blood vessel to close up and eventually disappear.
*Sclerotherapy typically requires more than one session to achieve desired results.
After-Care Information:
There is very little discomfort after treatment and you should return to your normal activities. Possible side effects over the next 48 hours are itching, swelling and bruising which is usually not severe and will go away in a short time. For the best results, it is recommended to wear compression stockings or wraps continuously for a 24 hour period. This is followed by wearing the stockings during the day only for 4 or 5 days. The compression stockings reduce the amount of pooling in the area to encourage blood flow and rapid healing.
